BIOGRAPHY

 

Laurie Sponagle (b. Brockville, ON), is an honours graduate of the University of Guelph (Specializing in Fine Arts).  At university studies focused upon painting, drawing and art history, with sculpturing and printmaking touched upon. 

 

In 2002, Laurie refocused her life and began to pursue her art full time as a professional artist exhibiting in shows in Ottawa, Kingston, Pelham, Cornwall, Montreal, Toronto and Ogdensburg (NY). 

 

Laurie was pleased to receive her first grant, in 2005, from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation, which aids representational artists during their formative years.  Ontario Arts Council (OAC) Exhibition Grants have been awarded for the exhibitions Conversations with Time: Fulford Chairs at Fulford Place Museum (2006) and Bodies and Motion, a joint exhibition with Andrea Mossop, at the Cornwall Regional Art Gallery, Cornwall Ontario (2008).  Laurie is a two time recipient of the OAC Visual Arts: Emerging Grant provides assistance for artists in the early years of their professional careers, to create new work and to continue work in progress. 

 

In the fall of 2017, Laurie was recognized by the Arts Council of the Thousand Islands with their inaugural Ceilia Kainz Award for leadership in the arts. This award is presented to a local artist who exemplifies artistic excellence and community involvement.

 

Her drawings have been acquired by the following corporate collections: Colart (Montreal),  Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP (Toronto), Davis LLP (Toronto) and St. Lawrence College (Brockville).
