Erin Loree

Shadow of a Hole

In this body of work, Loree deviates from her characteristic use of vibrant colour. In simplifying her process and limiting her palette to create a series of monochromatic paintings, she explores the relationship between the opposing forces of freedom and constraint. Reducing her palette to include only a variation of black plus white, Loree challenges herself to find new means of creating compelling images without the use of colour and its associations. These works play with the idea that it is possible to thrive within limitations, and that constraint is an integral part of freedom.
