Heather Haynes painting studio on Lake Opinicon

We bought our cottage on lake Opinicon in the fall of 2005.  I grew up cottaging every summer of my life here.  My mother was a teacher so we moved to the lake every summer.  We didn't have electricity or indoor plumbing at the time... and we loved every minute of it!  This is my happy place. When a cottage came up for sale we felt it was meant to be.  It only took 4 summers cottaging here ot realize we didn't want to head home after the summer... so we sold our house and moved here full time!  This gave us the opportunity to travel more and we ended up home schooling the boys aged 8 & 12 at the time, and spending the winter in Australia and New Zealand. The next winter we spent a couple of months in Tanzania.  Simplifying our life created room to explore the world.

Our cabin was only 900 sq ft. So my husband built me this amazing studio on the hill top over looking the lake.

Life and business became pretty crazy for us for a while... before the big U.S. crash. We were doing it all but something didn't quite sit right with me.  My balance was off.  This is when we decided to make the big change and live simply.  I haven't regretted it once.  Our kids have a busy summer up here with other families that cottage here, but we get to spend quiet family time the rest of the year.  We heat with wood and try to hang out our laundry... we aren't fanatical about anything we just try to live within our means so we can reach for inspiration and opportunity when it presents itself.

My husband plays some music now and again in different bands and has also dabbled in acting and modeling. His main priority is to help raise the boys and support my career and the Worlds Collide work.

Our oldest son Whit Montgomery has finished his 2nd year of studying Painting and Drawing at Concordia University in Montreal. As a child he was constantly drawing and being creative.  Although when he picked up a paint brush in Grade 11 we were all blown away by his talent.  He had sold over 20 paintings before he had even graduated from highschool...

Whit took a year off school after first year and traveled to Australia and Africa. He was back at school last year and was loving it!
